Week in the Life 2015

Inspired Life with Jess || Pizza

It’s that time of the year again… Week in the Life time of the year, that is! I will be following along again as Ali Edwards and many others around the world take part in documenting a week in the life. This is a week-long project, where I will record the details of the week with photos and words, and this will be my 6th year playing along!

Inspired Life with Jess || Projecsts

I’m good at taking the photos and writing the words over the course of the week for this project. However, when it comes to putting together an album, I get stuck. I have never actually successfully completed an album for this project, which I am hoping to break the trend of this year.

Inspired Life with Jess || Week in the Life Kit

I have purchased Ali’s Week in the Life kit this year and I am planning on keeping things nice and simple by sticking mostly with the kit contents. I will also be making some fairly simple journalling cards to use, to record things such as the weather and what we eat each day. The basic design plan is to use a full 6×8 page protector, a 3×8 page protector, a 6×8 page protector divided into 4 3×4 spaces, and then a 6×8 page protector divided into 2 3×4 spaces for each day. This will give me plenty of space for photos and words!

Inspired Life with Jess || Week in the Life Plans

My plan is to use my point and shoot camera since my DSLR is too bulky to commute to work with, and I only have an iPhone 4, which takes pretty ordinary photos. I will sharing here each day as well with a handful of photos and details about the day. I’m really aiming for the every day details of my day-to-day life, and I can’t wait to get started!

10 Things || Favourite Instagram Accounts

I’m pretty hooked on Instagram. I have been for quite a while now. My username is J3SS1C4 and you can see my page here. While I don’t always share pictures regularly, I do have some favourite accounts I like to follow. These are by no means the only ones I follow, but I decided today that I would share 10 of my favourite Instagram accounts.

Sunday Seven

Inspired Life with Jess || Sunday Seven

Each month I will be sharing a Sunday Seven post, which will be a round of a few of my favourite things I’ve seen on the web. I like the idea of celebrating some of my favourite sites, along with new sites that I discover and find inspiring.

  • Love this post on no regrets purchases and decor. It’s interesting to think about what my thoughts will be in a few years time for this sort of thing!
  • This super cute baby and toddler room with such amazing colours is a favourite
  • I don’t own a TV so I never see ads. When I see ones that make me laugh like these, sometimes I wish I did have one!
  • Since I’m getting ready for Week in the Life again this year, I thought checking out Elise’s photography archive would be a good idea!
  • On the topic of Week in the Life, here is a great post on creating your own project kit
  • This clip is quite interesting… How to take photos of negatives!
  • I’ve never thought to have blueberries on a pizza, but this one looks pretty great to me!

Hope you have all had a lovely weekend!

BOLD Intentions || August

Inspired Life with Jess || Bold Intentions

As part of my One Little Word for 2015, I am setting a handful of BOLD Intentions each month. These are areas that I am going to focus on each month to try to make some good progress with my One Little Word.

For August, my BOLD Intentions are:

  • Complete a Week in the Life (the photos and journalling, at least)
  • Look into an online back up such as Dropbox or Crashplan
  • Celebrate being engaged for a year!
  • Read at least one book (WomanCode, The Book Thief and The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up are on my list)
  • Make more notebooks for my Traveler’s notebook (I need one for our trip to Melbourne, another for wedding planning and one for documenting health)

I will report back at the start of September with an update as to how I go 🙂

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. You can see my posts about my 2015 word, Bold, here. If you don’t know what One Little Word is, you can read more about it in this post from Ali Edwards. I will be undertaking Ali’s One Little Word class again this year, and creating an album about my word and the changes it’s manifesting in my life. You can also listen to Elise Cripe’s podcast episode about One Little Word here.

Get Messy || Season of Adventure 04

Inspired Life with Jess || Exotic

Another week and another art journal page! This week is a nice, simple page. I found some autumn leaves as I was on a walk on my lunch break, and decided they were begging me to be in my art journal! This page is talking about my fascination with fall, when the leaves change into the most amazing colours! I find it super inspiring and it makes me really happy! I think the reason I find it intriguing is because we’ve never really lived anywhere that this happens until I moved to Parramatta a few years ago, and even then, it’s pretty small-scale here. I want to go somewhere where I can be surrounded by fall, to play in the leaves, and rake up a huge pile to jump in. Any suggestions where I should go?

If you want to sign up for Get Messy Art Journal, you can join the community here. Once you sign up, you can access the seasons, which run for 2 months each. There are 6 weeks of prompts for each season, then 2 weeks to catch up. So far there has been the Season of Love, the Season of Brave and the current Season of Adventure. It’s a great community, and I am finding the prompts super inspiring!

Workspace Wednesday

Inspired Life with Jess || Workspace Wednesday

Tonight has been spent working on a belated Father’s Day card, since my step Dad is American and they celebrated Father’s Day 3 months earlier than we do in Australia. This is such a foreign concept to me, but since he’s in America at the moment, it only makes sense that I send him a card on the American holiday. I have also been backing up some of my older Big Picture Classes class files and working on some photo editing. I have made it through my top 3 tasks for the day, which makes me quite happy! I even have my list almost ready to go for tomorrow, too!

The Unfinished Projects Challenge

Inspired Life with Jess || Unfinished Blanket

I had a lot of trouble deciding on what I would do for this years birthday challenge. I originally thought I would do something along the lines of making and sending 29 cards, but then I saw Kellie’s post on unfinished projects from last year, and I knew this was the challenge I needed the most!

Inspired Life with Jess || Unfinished Card Binder

I have a lot of unfinished crafty projects. Don’t we all? Most of mine are projects where I had a fun idea that I wanted to try, went out and brought the supplies, and then never went any further than that. This is the year I work on getting more of these projects completed! I’m aiming for at least 12 being done. One a month seems like a reasonable number, especially when some of these are bigger projects. I know my list below has a lot more than 12 items on it, so I’ll be happier if I end up doing more, but I also don’t mind if some end up getting taken off the list for good. Sometimes binning projects when they are no longer inspiring is just what is needed!

Inspired Life with Jess || Unfinished December Dailies

I don’t have many photos to share of the starts of these projects since most of them are packed away still, and I’m sure as I unpack I will find even more projects that need to be added to the list, but so far just from memory, here are some of the items on my list:

  • My knitted black and white blanket
  • My knitted aqua and yellow blanket
  • A knitted headband
  • A card binder
  • Dip dyed napkins
  • A big canvas
  • My collection of handmade traveler’s notebooks (I have quite a few I want to bind together to go in my fauxdori, only about half are done)
  • 2 unfinished friendship bracelets
  • A rainbow lorikeet long stitch
  • A flower cross stitch
  • My Thailand photo book
  • A travel gallery wall
  • Organising all my digital photos
  • A blanket box
  • Project Life 2013 and 2014
  • Multiple Week in the Life albums
  • Multiple December Daily albums
  • My 2008 Bali album
  • A New Zealand photo book
  • A patchwork cushion
  • An ampersand cushion
  • String art stars
  • A couple of smaller canvases

Inspired Life with Jess || Unfinished Gallery Wall

As I finish these projects, I’ll be sharing them here, along with on Instagram under the tag #j3ss1c4sunfinishedprojects. You can also follow me on Instagram here.

I’d love for you all to join in, and would love to hear what sorts of unfinished projects you may have!

Get Messy || Season of Adventure 03

Inspired Life with Jess || Art Journal Challenge

Another week has passed and I am still sticking with art journalling regularly, even with being exhausted and sick with the flu. My first page this week is the finished up challenge page that I shared here last week. I have now added stamping in the form of heat embossing stars in silver and gold glitter and a quote with letter stickers. I was feeling a bit blah about this page last week, but now that it’s done, I actually LOVE the finished result! The embossing made all the difference for me and this is a technique I need to challenge myself to do more often!

Inspired Life with Jess || Face Your Fears

My second page this week using a prompt about the most adventurous thing I’ve even done. My family would all say it’s jumping out of a plane since I’m scared of heights, but I found that abseiling 30 metres scared me a whole lot more. It was adventurous and challenging and I’m so proud that I did it! The journalling on this page is about facing my fears. For this page, I printed the full-page photo on textured cardstock, hand wrote my journalling, used a star brad at the top and some thickers that I have on hand. The journalling on this page is a little hard to read, but I still love how it turned out!

Inspired Life with Jess || Details

And because I love it so much, here is a more detailed shot of the first page to show the embossing a little better!

  • A recipes mini book sounds like a great way to keep recipes rather than reprinting them each time I want to make them!
  • I have recently discovered Teddi Confetti and I’m loving the videos she shares on YouTube
  • This house has me all heart eyes! Great colours and decor!
  • I need to try this idea to work out what to start working on, and to record my ideas for other projects too
  • Yum!
  • This list of what you should be writing in a note book is full of good advice!
  • I really want to make my Project Life Pages into photo books like this

Hope you have all had a lovely weekend!

Get Messy || Season of Adventure 02

Inspired Life with Jess || Happiness is Colourful

This week has been crazy busy. It’s been great to be able to come home and work on some art journalling though. My first page this week was quick and easy… A magazine page trimmed to size, with a quote. The moment I saw this picture, it reminded me of my adventures with my rainbow umbrella and leopard print gumboots jumping in puddles on my walk to work. I always wanted a rainbow umbrella and was so stoked to actually get one! It’s since been ruined by the wind, but I’m on the look out for another!

Inspired Life with Jess || Challenge

Another page I’m working on is the Get Messy Art Journal Season of Adventure week 2 challenge. This one is a little different to the usual prompts… There is a new addition to add to it each day over the course of the week. I’m undecided if I like it just yet, but I’ll see how it turns out at the end! I started with weaved paper with text, which was fun to do, then added some paint and spray mist (that decided to be temperamental and splatter in the middle of the page. I definitely want to try the weaved look with a photo soon! I’ll share the finished page next week.
