ANZAC day commemorates the anniversary of the Australian and New Zealand forces landing in Gallipoli during WW1, where they came against Turkish defenders. Over 8,500 Australian soldiers were killed over the course of the campaign that was supposed to change the outcome of the war. It is a day of remembrance for the brave soldiers that fought and lost their lives on behalf of our country.
While I believe war is a senseless waste of life, these people deserve to be remembered for the brave acts they did to serve our country and ensure our freedom. They will not be forgotten.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
